The World from the Best Authorities - Thomas Kitchin
A hand colored copper plate engraving of a double hemisphere world map,
published in cir. 1780 by Thomas Kitchin. Showing Greenland connected
to North America and the Aleutian chain as a large land mass extending
west from the Alaskan mainland. The American Colonies extend only to
the Mississippi River and are clamed as part of the British
Empire. Northern California is labeled
“New Albion” and ncludes the “West
River” & “Pikes Lake”. The
Pacific Ocean has numerous islands named and Tasmania is attached to
“New Holland” (Australia)
